1. Sigiriya

Visit the ancient Rock Fortress of Sigiriya (Lion Mountain) in the Central Province and Discover Sri Lanka’s world famous Sigiriya Rock and Gardens. This is a world heritage site. The fortress was built by king Kasyapa (AD 477 – 495). Sigiriya is a huge Rock rising200 meters from the surrounding plains. The ruins of a royal palace over 1500 years old are found at the summit.  View the World famous Sigiriya frescoes of beautiful bear breasted damsels. At the foot of the Rock are the remains of beautiful landscaped gardens reputed to be the oldest in Asia. Look at the remnants of the Lion stair case which led up to the royal palace. 2.Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura, the ancient royal capital of the country, is the Cradle of Sri Lanka’s ancient civilization, and is a World Heritage site dating back to 500 BC. It is the home of reputedly the world’s oldest tree- the Sri Maha Bodhiya, grown from a sapling from the Bodhi Tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.  View spectacular historical monuments such as the Ruwanweliseya Stupa (144 BC), Jetawanaramaya, the world’s tallest brick structure, and Thuparamaya, the oldest Dagaba in the country( 3rd century BC). Look at the ruins of ancient Buddhist  monasteries like Lovamahapaya or the Brazen Palace, once comprising nine stories ;  see the ancient giant reservoirs and amazing irrigation systems still extant; all of which bear witness to a once flourishing advanced civilization.  

 3.Dambulla
                    World Heritage Site.  Ancient Monastery and the largest Cave Temple Complex in Sri Lanka     dating back to 300 BC.

 4.Kandy/Peradeniya
              The lakeside city of Kandy is a world heritage site and the home of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Lord Buddha. It is also the Cultural & Hill Capital of Sri Lanka.  The Kandy Lake was built by the last king of Sri lanka Sri Wickrema Rajasinghe in 1798. The Udawattekelle Rain Forest Reserve is popular for its bird life. The world famous Kandy Perahera (pageant) is in July/ August. Visit the Old Royal Palace and Museum. Peradeniya Botanical Gardens
Discover Sri Lanka’s Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya which is world famous for its collection of orchids. The Gardens cover nearly 150 acres and contain an astonishing variety of both endemic and exotic trees, flowers and foliage (over 4000 species).

5.Nuwara Eliya/Horton Plains

                   Nuwara Eliya, also known as Little England, is over 1800 meters from sea level with an                    average temperature of 16c.  Visit a tea factory in a lush tea plantation and see how the famous “Ceylon Tea” is made.  Gregory’s Lake, Nuwaraeliya Gardens, Golf course and Hakgala gardens, are among the other attractions.

              The Horton Plains is a plateau situated 2000m above sea level. Experience the spectacular World’s End where the plateau suddenly disappears and plunges down over 800m. A bewitching variety of wild flowers, animal and bird life, and rare butterflies are found here.

7.Hikkaduwa
            Situated 90km south of Colombo is one of the most popular beaches in the island and is a favorite spot of tourists. Snorkeling, surfing, scuba diving and under water safaris are among the many inviting attractions.

8.Yala
      Situated down south the Yala National Park is the most popular wildlife Sanctuary in SrI  Lanka. Watch endemic animals in their natural habitat.   Take a jeep safari. Watch wild Elephants, leopards basking in the sun ,  different species of deer, wild buffalo, bear, wild boar, a large variety of birds, monkeys, crocodiles, pythons and other reptiles. 9.Sinharaja
      Natural World Heritage site. One of the few remaining primeval Rain Forests. A popular destination for eco tourists and bird watchers. Variety of endemic flora and fauna. A large number of endemic mammals, birds and butterflies are found in this forest.

10. Colombo
